I have just finished reading Lesley Donohoe’s from last week in praise ofYouTube. As I was reading it I couldn’t help agree that YouTube is a great resource. I have had some “hairy” moments though trying to show seemingly innocent videos only to be bombarded by some inappropriate content – not great in the classroom!
So to stop this (embarrassing event) I looked for a filter of some type and stumbled across this Safe Share site which I thought I might share as it allows you to share (embed) links without the inappropriate content. Basically you to enter the URL of the YouTube video you want to use without ads or other (inappropriate) content and it creates a new SafeShare URL. Easy to use and a great idea for a classroom setting. It is also possible to select a specific section of video so that it’s ready to go for your lesson.
Great for hooking student’s interest at the beginning of a lesson or to act as a writing prompt or many other reasons. The only thing I am not sure of is whether it might be blocked by EQ, but you could always ask for permission to access the site.
